Dr. Vik Sampath is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery techniques.
Most recently, Dr. Sampath was a Clinical Instructor (Spine Fellow) at the Oregon Health and Science University – Spine Surgery Fellowship in Portland, OR. He earned his doctorate and completed his residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. While there, he received the President Scholar Award for Clinical Research. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology where he worked on the development of lumbar fusion implant technology, from which grew his passion for spine surgery. Dr. Sampath was also valedictorian of his high school class.
Dr. Sampath has experience as a clinical trials researcher and has conducted in-depth medical studies. In medical school, he investigated the role of stem cells in spinal fusion surgeries. During his orthopedic training, he was the Principal Investigator on “The Effect of Prophylactic Incisional Wound VAC Therapy on Postoperative Infection Rates in Neuromuscular Scoliosis Patients.” Dr. Sampath has also been published in numerous publications and presentations such as the Augusta University Research Symposium and he is currently an active reviewer for the Global Spine Journal. Dr. Sampath is a member of the North American Spine Society and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
