Forge Your Own Path – Employee Feature: Yarely Vargas

In the world of spine care, results matter more than anything else. When you have patients with back and neck pain, you can’t afford to delay any part of the process in finding a solution for them. Scheduling has to be quick, appointments have to be effective, and treatments have to be painless—literally. There are many ways to approach each step of the patient journey, but how do we fine-tune things to produce the best possible outcome? Well, we need data, of course, and that’s where our Marketing Data Analyst, Yarely Vargas, comes in! She’s the reason we know our favorite statistic: we treat 93% of patients without surgery.

Forging a Path at Home

Often unsung and unseen, Yarely works diligently behind the scenes connecting systems, collecting data, and producing a wide variety of reports and dashboards that track every aspect of our business. She has a real passion for it, too, saying she loves business and entrepreneurship because the essence of it is “finding solutions to a problem.” Yes, Yarely works remotely, but no, it’s not in some dark server room with lines of code dancing behind her. She’s simply at her home in Dallas with her two cute cats and precious dog. When she’s not crunching numbers, she’s often outside gardening! When asked for gardening tips, her advice is to just go “all in” because when you have a lot of plants, it’s easier to remember to water them.

Forging a Path Abroad

Beyond spending time at home with her pets and plants, Yarely also enjoys traveling the world. Despite being from Dallas and loving her home, she always knew she wanted to leave Texas for college, and so she did, attending Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts! Living in the greater Boston area was a big change, but Yarely thrived in that environment. She even had the opportunity to travel across the globe for an educational trip of a lifetime!

She visited Southeast Asia, exploring both Thailand and Laos! While both countries were an incredible experience, Yarely loved Laos much more. When asked why she loved Laos so much, she says it was the people. They were so joyful and content in their daily lives, and everything they did was with pride. It was blissful and beautiful, both naturally and culturally. Upon returning to the U.S., Yarely finished her education, graduating with a degree in Marketing Analytics and Strategic Management. She then returned home to enter the job market—but she didn’t stop traveling (or learning).

Forging a Path at Spine Team Texas

When asked why she chose to work with Spine Team Texas, she said she wanted to work for a small to medium-sized company where she could touch many parts of the business and make a positive difference in her community. This narrowed her job search to education and/or healthcare, eventually leading her to join our Marketing Department. At first, her role was not so specialized. She had her hand in many different areas beyond data reporting—helping with design work, ordering promotional products, and handling anything else that was needed at our growing company. And even though she was doing all of these things, her passion for analytics kept shining through.

Yarely developed increasingly advanced ways of presenting crucial data for leadership. She was a huge advocate for the importance of data reporting, and Spine Team Texas heard her loud and clear, eventually leading to her role becoming more specialized. Additional team members were added to fill the other roles Yarely had been assisting with, and she also obtained a Data Science certificate from Southern Methodist University to take her analyses to the next level. Still, even with all of this hard work and growth, she found time to continue traveling the world!

At this point, Yarely has visited Spain, France, England, Japan, Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada, and, of course, Thailand and Laos! London wasn’t her favorite, Tokyo was hectic (Osaka was much better), and driving in Costa Rica practically prepared her for Formula 1. If you can drive there, you can drive anywhere. The roads are narrow, winding, and honestly quite dangerous, but she not only lived to tell the tale—she made a great memory doing so. Still, despite all these years and all these places, when asked where she would live if she had to move away from the U.S., Yarely immediately said, “Laos.” Even though Yarely loves solving complicated problems, it’s the peacefulness of the Laotian people that attracts her the most.
