Neck pain can often be accompanied by headaches, and can significantly affect your day-to-day life. This kind of pain often stems from problems with the cervical spine, the region of the spine located in the neck. Conditions such as cervical spondylosis, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease can lead to compression or irritation of nerves in the cervical spine, resulting in pain that radiates into the head and neck.
Neck and upper back pain are prevalent complaints that can arise from a variety of factors, often causing discomfort and restricted mobility. Poor posture, tech neck, prolonged sitting at desks, and repetitive movements can strain the muscles and ligaments in the neck and upper back, leading to tension and pain. Additionally, stress, muscle imbalances, and sudden movements can exacerbate these symptoms. Other potential causes include injuries such as whiplash, herniated discs, or degenerative conditions like arthritis.
Shoulder pain is a common complaint that can significantly impact your daily activities and quality of life. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including injuries, overuse, and underlying medical conditions. Injuries like rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocations, or fractures can result from trauma or repetitive stress on the shoulder joint, where as overuse of the shoulder muscles, particularly in sports or occupations that involve repetitive overhead movements, can lead to conditions like tendonitis or bursitis.
Living with back pain can be a discouraging and often debilitating experience. The causes can vary far and wide, but one of the most common we see is caused by herniated or bulging discs. These are conditions affecting the spinal discs, the rubbery cushions between the individual bones (vertebrae) that stack up to make your spine. A disc becomes “herniated” or bulges when its inner gel-like core pushes out through a tear or weak area in the outer layer of the disc.
Arm pain can be frustrating and often pretty distressing, limiting your ability to complete simple tasks to more complex movements. It can stem from a multitude of causes, ranging from minor injuries to serious medical conditions. Acute injuries such as strains, sprains, or fractures resulting from falls, impacts, or overexertion can lead to sudden onset arm pain. But repetitive motions, overuse and even spinal conditions can also result in arm pain, often accompanied by numbness, tingling, or weakness.
Tennis elbow is a common condition characterized by pain and inflammation on the outside of the elbow. Despite its name, it’s not limited to tennis players; it can affect anyone who repeatedly uses their forearm muscles, such as painters, plumbers, and even computer users. The condition is caused by repetitive motions or overuse of the forearm muscles, leading to tiny tears in the tendons that attach to the bony bump on the outside of the elbow. This results in pain, tenderness, and sometimes weakness in the affected arm.
Wrist pain is unfortunately a common issue that can significantly hinder hand function. It can happen for a range of reasons, from overuse injuries to underlying medical conditions. Repetitive activities like typing, writing, or using handheld devices can strain the wrist muscles and tendons, leading to conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome or tendinitis. Acute injuries such as sprains or fractures resulting from falls or sudden impacts can also cause wrist pain. Additionally, arthritis, including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, can lead to chronic inflammation and discomfort in the wrist joint.
Shin splints, medically known as medial tibial stress syndrome, are a common condition characterized by pain along the shinbone (tibia) – the large bone in the front of the lower leg. This discomfort typically occurs during or after exercise, particularly activities that involve repetitive impact, such as running, jumping, or dancing. Shin splints are often caused by overuse or sudden increases in activity intensity or duration, leading to inflammation of the muscles, tendons, and the outer layer of bone.
The foot and ankle is one of the hardest working systems in your body, carrying your weight each and every day. This is why it can be impacted so dramatically by spinal abnormalities. This could be anything from sciatica presenting in extremities to slipped or herniated discs.
