Meet Dr. Royston
Dr. Alexa Royston brings her knowledge and skills in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation to Spine Team Texas. She specializes in noninterventional spine, sports, and neuromusculoskeletal medicine.
Dr. Royston earned her medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX. She then completed her internship and residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX.
Dr. Royston is double board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. She is an expert in the nonsurgical treatment of spine and musculoskeletal conditions, as well as peripheral nerve injuries and neuromuscular disorders. Equipped with this unique combination of skills and expertise, Dr. Royston has the ability to diagnose and treat spine and nerve conditions with the goal of helping patients improve their physical function and quality of life.
Dr. Royston also has a passion for women’s health and musculoskeletal needs including pelvic floor rehabilitation, pelvic pain, pregnancy and postpartum mobility. Her distinct training as a physiatrist bridges the gap between orthopedics and gynecology, providing non-surgical solutions to help patients with pelvic floor dysfunction.
Dr. Royston has deep roots in Texas. Prior to her medical training, Dr. Royston graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Baylor University in Waco, TX where she competed as a D1 NCAA Athlete in cross country and triathlon. In her collegiate career, she led the team to two National Championship appearances in 2009 and 2010 and qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships her sophomore year. She is also a 2x Academic All-Big 12 Athlete.
Dr. Royston has conducted numerous research studies and been featured in many publications including the Journal of the American Medical Association, American Journal of Sports Medicine, and Current Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Reports. She participates in public speaking and has presented her research at multiple national conferences. She stays informed of medical advances as a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Dr. Royston also believes in giving back to her community. She served on the planning committee for the UT Southwestern Adaptive Sports Expo, among many other charitable activities. She is dedicated to giving back to her community by mentoring students and trainees from diverse backgrounds.

Personal Interests
- Dr. Royston is a third-generation native Texan. She enjoys spending time with her husband and four young children. You can find her swimming, biking, or running around White Rock Lake while training for her next triathlon or marathon. She and her family remain active in their church.
